Display: the basis for current applications and specifications
- The Guild benefits from deliberate complex language and means of implementation.
- Specifications including SVG are designed by specialists. They are then reviewed and refined by their peers.
- Naive users needs and preferences are rarely considered. Open source software also suffers from this process.
- Browser or User Agent development is partially funded by search engines such as Google.
- Filling the Jug: The result is that much of the 'good' content on the web is produced professionally and most content provided by amateurs is poorly produced
- SVG 1.2 was developed from SVG 1.1 without reference to naive authors. Developers considered and agreed what enhancements were possible and that was included.
- WCAG 2 was developed from WCAG 1 initially without reference to the needs of people with learning disabilities. Even though the working group were fully aware that this group is easily the largest and currently most disadvantaged minority, being approximately twenty percent of the population.
- inkscape is a fantastic open source authoring tool. However as time goes by it is developing feature bloat. There is very little research and development into making a simple and easy to use authoring interface.
